Mirissa
Mirissa, once a sleepy old beach town in the southern part of Sri Lanka, is now one of the most popular places to surf and watch whales. The town on the beach is 150 kilometers south of Colombo. It has palm trees, blue water, and colorful boats on the shore.
Mirissa has a stunning view and a plethora of activities, including whale watching, snorkeling, surfing, and bodyboarding. The city has a good balance of quiet days and lively nights by the beach.
During a portion of the day, the lively coast hosts happy hours, and at night, seafood dinners are served with candles. A sight to behold are the crystal-clear waters packed with turtles and other aquatic life.
The beaches of Weligama, Dalawella, and Unawatuna are just a scooter ride away, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot stilt fishermen fishing in the shallow waters. This coastline is home to picturesque landmarks such as Parrot Rock, the well-known coconut island, the Elephant Transit Home, and the Galle Fort.
