Polonnaruwa

The marvel that is Polonnaruwa can be found in Northern Sri Lanka. In the 10th century, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa under the Chola Empire. This makes it, after Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka’s second-oldest kingdom.

The whole town has two areas – the turn of events and framework part called the Polonnaruwa new town and the Old Site with antiquated remains and monarchical designs.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site is the city’s old neighborhood. It has numerous tombs, temples, statues, and stupas that date back 800 years. Gal Vihara, a Buddhist rock temple built in the 12th century, the Archaeological Museum, Polonnaruwa Vatadage, a stupa built in the 12th century, Rankot Vihara, an ancient relic shrine, Hatadage, a cathedral-style Buddhist temple, the Lankathilaka, and numerous statuettes dedicated to Lord Buddha are all located within the town.
