Wilpattu

Wilpattu is one of the largest and most prominent national parks in Sri Lanka. The specialty of this park is that it contains over 100 natural lakes that spread across a land of about 1300 square kilometers. The name Wilpattu has been derived by combining theĀ

terms “Willu (lakes)” and Pattu (land). This is located 185 km from Colombo, just before Mannar. The park was closed until 2003 due to the Civil War and as of today, it is a highly valued wildlife destination for both local and foreign tourists.
