Overview

Sri Lanka boasts a written history of 2,500 years, and it is supported by a trail of impressive ancient ruins dating back to prehistory. In turn, her people value their heritage, and Sri Lankan culture is born out of legendary stories and awe-inspiring monuments. Doubtlessly, all cultural tours in Sri Lanka include at least one Sri Lankan historical site. Sri Lanka was crowned as “Asia’s Leading Destination” at the World Travel Awards – 2017 by defeating 47 countries in Asia. Sri Lanka has UNESCO listed six cultural heritages and two natural heritages. Altogether, eight world heritage sites suggest that Sri Lanka cultural tours have so much to give you.

AIRPORT/NEGOMBO

On arrival, meet your local guide and transfer to Negombo.

NEGOMBO/ANURADHAPURA ANCIENT CITY

This morning after a leisurely breakfast transfer to visit Anuradhapura and Mihintale. Anuradhapura, a Ceylonese political and religious capital that flourished for 1,300 years, was abandoned after an invasion in 993. Hidden away in dense jungle for many years, the splendid site, with its palaces, monasteries and monuments, is now accessible once again. Next visit Mihintale which is revered as the birthplace of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. On completion, check in the hotel and relax.

ANURADHAPURA/POLONNARUWA/MINNERIYA/SIGIRIYA

After breakfast, transfer to Polonnaruwa which remains superior proof of ancient culture & heritage blended with religious beliefs. Walk across its scattered walls of the World Heritage Site - blessed by stupas, resting Buddha statues, irrigation canals and fantastically carved Hindu sculptures - while observing the relic house - Watadage - which boasts of beautiful stone carvings. In the evening enjoy jeep safari in Minneriya national park. On completion, check in the hotel and spend some relaxing time by the Pool.

SIGIRIYA/RITIGALA FOREST MONASTERY/SIGIRIYA

After breakfast, proceed to Ritigala - a trekking paradise - is simply where architecture, history and travel are dished out in the same destination. The strict natural reserve resting calmly in its grandeur is basically a forest monastery. In the evening visit Sigiriya rock fortress (A UNESCO World Heritage Site). A historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 meters high. On completion, return to the hotel and rest of the evening at leisure, perhaps take a dip at on one their pools, infinity or the rock pool.

SIGIRIYA/DAMBULLA CAVE TEMPLE/SPICE GARDEN/KANDY

After breakfast, head towards the once capital city of Sri Lanka, the beautiful Kandy while stopping at Dambulla cave temple. Make a short visit to the traditional spice garden in Sri Lanka en route. Later in the evening proceed on a city tour of Kandy including a visit to the Scared Temple of the Tooth, Kandy Museum, Bawa court house etc. Thereafter witness a cultural show.

KANDY/NUWARA ELIYA

After breakfast check-out from the hotel and proceed to Nuwara Eliya. En route visit a tea planation where you will witness the tea making process. You may enjoy tea plucking session. En route visit Ramboda waterfalls. In the evening enjoy city tour of Nuwara Eliya which is called "city on the plain or "city of light". Optional: enjoy High Tea at the Grand Hotel.

NUWARA ELIYA/HORTON PLAINS NATIONAL PARK/ELLA

With a packed breakfast, get in to a jeep and proceed to Horton Plains (approx. 9 km trek). Horton Plains National Park is an UNESCO World Heritage Site & Eco-tourism hideout in the heart of the isle, painted with unending stretches of green pastures marks one of the healthiest wet montane evergreen forests in Sri Lanka. On completion, transfer back to the hotel and continue your journey to Ella. This evening perhaps get a snack at a local restaurant / café, suggest Ella Chill (own cost).

ELLA/SINHARAJA RAIN FOREST (KALAWANA)

After breakfast, you could explore Ella and surrounds - Ella known as everyone’s favorite hill country village and the place to ease off the travel accelerator. Visit famous Nine arch bridge and other scenic spots (Ravana falls/Little Adam’s peak trekking etc.) In the evening transfer to Kalawana (Sinharaja rain forest). Check in the hotel and relax.

SINHARAJA RAIN FOREST (KALAWANA)/GALLE

After breakfast, explore the world-renowned rain forest of Sinharaja forest reserve, a UNESCO world heritage site and biosphere reserve, by trekking through numerous trails, seeing amazing flora and wildlife, endemic trees and a plethora of birds. In the afternoon transfer to Galle. This evening at leisure, perhaps take a dip at their pool.

GALLE FORT/COLOMBO CITY/DEPARTURE

After breakfast, discover the Galle fort and Ramparts. Galle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this historic city is a delight to explore on foot, an endlessly exotic old trading port blessed with imposing Dutch-colonial buildings, ancient mosques and churches, grand mansions and museums. Next transfer to Colombo. On arrival you will be taken on the brief city tour in Colombo. In the evening head towards the airport for your departure flight back home.
